Wednesday I am off from work for Veteran’s Day. Yippee!!
This weekend I will see Sol in Philly at the Roller Derby National Tournament!! Yahoo!!
This week is a good one. November 9, 2009
Theater visits. November 5, 2009

Last night I went to see the Michael Jackson memorial movie, This is It. I thought there would be more drama in it or appearances of his family or the media talking about him or his death, but thankfully there was not at all. The movie was very respectful and showed MJ at his best rehearsing and being admired and loved by everyone working with him. I loved the choreography and watching MJ practice with his dancers. I forget how much I love and am amazed by awesome dancers. All of the footage of MJ performing was great. He sounded awesome and he wasn’t missing a beat in his moves. It’s really a shame that he didn’t get a chance to present the fabulous show he was preparing, but this movie does give a good idea of what we all missed out on. Would have been an amazing tour!
Last weekend I went to see Where the Wild Things Are. I had never read this book as a child, but appreciate that it is a classic that so many cherish, so I was excited to check it out. I started crying almost immediately in the beginning, which was unexpected, but really thought the beginning was painful and sweet remembering how lonely it can feel to be a kid at times. The costumes and scenery were really great, but I would be lying if I said that I was enthralled throughout the whole movie. Once the initial excitement of the costumes had kind of passed, I found myself a bit bored and thought the movie was a bit slow. Glad that I got to see it and hope that it was exciting for those that grew up in love with this book.
Recent Performances. November 3, 2009
I’ve noticed that I most often find myself going to shows in the Oct/Nov and April/May timeframes and these couple of weeks have been this year’s fall run of shows. In the last week I went to two great performances and later this week I am supposed to go to one more that will hopefully be a good one as well. After Friday, show season will likely die down again for awhile.
So last Wednesday I went to see Method Man, Red Man and Snoop Dogg. So glad to have gone. It was awesome! I didn’t know most of the songs, but they played a few old tunes that I was really excited to hear. Glad to see them all in person doing what they do. There was a special guest appearance by the Lady of Rage, who did some snippets from her mid-90s hit, Afro Puffs. If only Nate Dogg and Warren G had come out and performed Regulators could it have been much better. Ode to middle school. Sigh.
Sunday evening I went to a fundraiser for a local theater, where Stephen Colbert was being interviewed by the artistic director of said theater. Apparently they were college buds. Another show that I am glad to have not missed. Colbert was very funny, but I found myself laughing even more than I might otherwise, due to the awesomely contagious and goofy laugh of this guy sitting right in front of us. Oh how I do love to laugh.
Halloween Spirit. November 2, 2009

I totally did not do anything festive for Halloween, but am thrilled that my friends Ken and Denise absolutely did. I give you Jack the Pumpkin King and Sally from the “Nightmare Before Christmas”. Don’t they look fabuloso? This photo is from the Time Out New York site, who snapped their photo at the parade.
Declaration! November 1, 2009
After two weeks off, it is back to the sweats of hot yoga!!
I’m going to aim high and shoot for 3 classes this week.
Mon – 1 class down (Admittedly I almost did not make it through. My body was apparently not quite ready to get back in full swing. Detoxing is painful. And by all that I mean- I left the room during class to hurl and then went back in to finish the end of class. uggh!)
Yoga discontinued for this week. Will try again next week.
Recently Rented. November 1, 2009

I had hoped to make it to the Halloween parade in nyc, but instead had a relaxing movie marathon evening at home.
1. Elegy – There was some interesting reflection in this one and showed some interesting dynamics in relationships. Penelope Cruz is really great at what she does.
2. The Duchess – I always love the costumes and scenery in these sort of period pieces and was not disappointed with this one. There are all kinds of double standards to been enraged at throughout this one. The actor playing the Duke does an excellent job of making you hate him. His character is terrible!
3. The Education of Charlie Banks – I rented this one because the lead role is played by Jesse Eisenberg, who was in the Squid and the Whale. I would say it was just okay.
I enjoyed all three, but probably wouldn’t add any of them to my all time faves list or anything.
The Slinn gets hitched! October 27, 2009

The wedding was an amazing reflection of the Slinn and Eric. The festivities were held in a cozy historic New England barn. There were so many special and touching details to the day. I cried through most of the ceremony so happy for my friend and so touched by all of the sweetness and love in the air. The food and music were wonderful and everything was so very classy and warm. The Slinn couldn’t have been more beautiful on the wedding day and was still beaming when we saw her two days later after the mini-honeymoon. It was awesome to be there for the celebration and glad that our little posse was able to get to town a few days early to help with some last minute and special details, like picking up the wedding dress. It was really awesome to be there together for the Slinn!
Beantown bound tomorrow. October 20, 2009

Getting on the road at the butt crack of dawn shouldn’t be too bad knowing a reunion with my favorite ladies will be just a few hours away. I’m really looking forward to the drive tomorrow in the new ride with a cup of coffee and good tunes all the way.
In the mean time, trying to tie up some loose ends at work so I can leave the office this afternoon and feel like maybe I haven’t left too much of a mess behind for others to deal with while I’m out.
Also have some school business that I will hopefully make some headway on in class tonight.
Doing my best to lighten the load of potentially stressful things on my mind before hitting the road tomorrow.
This is a boring post. I’m sorry. Fun and excitement on the way though. Yes! Yes! Yessssssss!
Passing time. October 16, 2009
One way to annoy a fellow coworker…
On a slow afternoon in the office, message your coworker every so often giving a count down until quitting time. The earlier you start and the more frequently you send the updates, the more frustrated your coworker will be. Why watch the clock on your own, when you can take someone down with you? Mwaa haa haa.
